Description

This is an experimental potshot at a relatively small galaxy for a 5" scope--NGC 4312 is a spiral galaxy typically framed with its optical neighbor M100. This is a crop from a larger FOV that includes M 100 as well as a bunch of other galaxies. Several tiny, distant galaxies can be seen near the left hand edge. Seeing was quite good for much of this shoot. If I had known this galaxy would be depicted with so much structure and color, I would have collected a lot more data. I know it's not the cleanest image--but its the best that could be produced with this data without turning it into a cartoon. I will work on reducing the stippled glow. I think I can do it with some judiciously crafted masks and some gentle curves adjustments. For now, just don't get too close to the screen. Its not bad if viewed from 3 feet or so. i suppose that is normal viewing, but I usually scrutinize up close (being nearsighted lends itself to this). I am looking forward to galaxy season next year, which I will partake in with the C11Edge.
